In short
The visura protesti says whether a person or a business has unpaid cheques or bills of exchange recorded against them in the last five years. The electronic register of protests is kept by the chambers of commerce, and it is public.
The document at a glance
How a protest is cancelled
Anyone who pays the instrument within twelve months of the protest can ask the President of the chamber of commerce to cancel it, attaching proof of payment. After that deadline the route left is rehabilitation (riabilitazione), which asks the court for a decree after one year of regular conduct. In both cases cancellation does not happen by itself: it must be requested, and until it is, the protest stays on record even if the debt was settled long ago.
When you do not need it
- You are buying a property from a private individualThe risk is on the property, not on the bill: what matters is the mortgage search (ispezione ipotecaria), which says whether there is a mortgage or a seizure under way.
- The seller is a companyThe visura camerale says whether it is in liquidation or in insolvency proceedings, which is a much bigger fact than a bounced cheque.
- You are buying at a court auctionThe seller is the procedure, and the transfer decree clears the charges. The solvency of the debtor is not your concern.
How to get it · not from us
We do not sell it
The register of protests (protesti) is consulted at the Chamber of Commerce, which issues it at the counter or from its website. The channel we use does not reach this register.
Where to get it, then

Whoever is selling a lot is checked elsewhere first
The lot page has the procedure, the court and the dates: the protest check is the last one, not the first.
